Our Mission

Philosophy/Vision

Competency in communication is critical in order to be a literate and informed citizen. One of the key goals of a UCCS education is to prepare students to excel academically, professionally, and personally. The Excel Communication Center provides students with the motivation, knowledge, and skills to effectively communicate in a variety of contexts. We support comprehensive, personalized, and group educational experiences for students across all majors and colleges to help them develop communication competence in their discipline. The Excel Communication Center strives to help students achieve their educational, professional, and personal goals and develop an enhanced understanding of themselves as members of the community.

Mission

The Excel Communication Center exists to promote excellent communication and academic success for all students at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Center peer tutors work toward these goals by offering a variety of services, including in-person AND virtual presentation outlining assistance, presentation practice, post-presentation viewing, mock interviews, group project facilitation, group project presentation practice, interpersonal communication assistance, and visual aid preparation, and media interview practice, all with personalized and detailed feedback. The Excel Communication Center staff works to offer various Communication Across the Curriculum outreach workshops. These no-cost, virtual OR in-person workshops benefit students and assist faculty in the areas of Conflict Management, the Eight Competencies of Public Speaking, Group Dynamics, and SCRAP (Simple, Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proficiency).
